LAURIETON’S first Olympian, boxer Shelley Watts, is brimming with confidence, training hard and soaking up the atmosphere in Rio ahead of the Olympic Games which begin on Friday (6am Saturday our time).
“I don’t know if it’s actually going to dawn on me that this is the Olympic Games,” Shelley said.
“I’m just feeling so good in my training at the moment and I’m mentally feeling strong. My coaches are relaying back to me how strong I look and how positive my vibe is and how much faith they have in me.
“The situation is so crazy but it feels so natural for me to be here so I don’t think I’m going to get over-awed by it being such a big occasion. I’m looking forward to being able to get in the ring. Everything is firing the way it should, I’m feeling great and it’s time.”
