
It is shaping us as a Melbourne Cup-like field for the 2016 council elections.
Nominations close at noon on Wednesday with the ballot draw taking place at 4pm.
The council election is on Saturday September 10.
For the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council election, (as at Tuesday at 5pm) the list of would-be councillors as listed on the Electoral Commission website are:

Mayor
In the race to be our new mayor there are, (as at Tuesday at 5pm), three candidates, who have put their name forward and they are, as they appear on the electoral commission website, Peter Besseling, Sharon Griffiths and Peta Pinson.
At 4pm on Wednesday, the returning officer for the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council elections will conduct the ballot paper draw to determine the position of candidates and groups (where applicable) on the ballot paper.
The close of nominations will mark the beginning of the official month-long election campaign.
To coincide with the confirmation of the candidates in the local government election, the Residents’ Action Network will host a third community forum in September.
Local government candidates are asked to contact RAN to ensure they are included on their list for the Meet the Candidates’ Community Forum on Thursday September 1 at Port City Bowling Club, from 5.30pm until 7.30pm.
Residents’ Action Network has been involved in a number of events this year, including being part of the stoppage re the development by Woolworths that involved the important Plaza Car Park.
