The $150 donation has bought new exercise equipment for the program.
Participants can now enjoy a wider range of exercises thanks to the range of equipment which includes boxing gloves, fit balls and even a mini trampoline.
The group meets on a Wednesday from 9.30am at the Camden Haven Community Health Centre in Laurie Street, Laurieton. It is coordinated by the Community Respiratory Educator Maree Kennedy, and Community Physiotherapist Kathleen Archer prescribes each participant an individualised program with constant supervision and instruction.
Ms Archer said the exercise group was for people with a respiratory disease who want to improve their health, learn more about their illness, meet other people with similar conditions and form friendships and support networks.
“On average, there are 12 to 14 people per class, with plenty of exercises and equipment now, thanks to the Camden Haven Lung Support Group, to accommodate all fitness levels,” Ms Archer said.
“There have been some fantastic results so far, with all participants improving in their six minute walk tests; some by up to 200m.
“Increasing physical activity has been shown to reduce re-admissions to hospital, with many of the participants having no respiratory-related admissions in the past year.
“Because the group operates locally in the Camden Haven, participants can access the service without the need to travel to Port Macquarie every week,” Ms Archer said.
“This group is a fantastic option for those looking to improve their health and now, thanks to the Camden Haven Lung Support Group donation, participants have access to a wider range of equipment to expand their exercise program.”
