A woman has died and a child has been injured after a crash between a boat and jet ski.

A 54-year-old woman, died when a boat and her jet ski collided on the Nerong Inlet at Nerong, south of Forster.
An eight-year-old boy, who was also on the jet ski, was airlifted from the scene and taken to John Hunter Hospital. He is to undergo surgery for a broken leg.
The boat’s skipper, a 46-year-old man, suffered a broken nose and ribs and was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital.
A 20-year-old man, who was also on board the boat, was uninjured.
Specialist marine investigations from the Marine Area Command are investigating the crash along with detectives from Manning/Great Lakes Local Area Command.
Marine Area Command’s Superintendent Mark Hutchings said it was the early stages of a complex investigation.
“We are mindful of the tragedy that has befallen everyone involved and what sort of affect last night’s events would have had.
“The boat has been taken to a secure location for forensic examination. Specialist marine investigators have been sent to the area to work with local detectives so a report can be prepared for the Coroner,” Superintendent Hutchings said.
INITIAL REPORT, Friday evening: A woman has died and a child has been injured after a crash between a boat and jet ski south of Forster.
A boat and a jet ski collided on the Nerong Inlet at Nerong, south of Forster, about 5.30pm Friday.
An woman, who was on the jet ski, died at the scene. Her age is not yet known.
An eight-year-old boy, also on the jet ski, received spinal injuries and was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital for treatment. He is in a stable condition.
The skipper of the boat, a male aged 46, also was flown to John Hunter Hospital.
His injuries are not known at this stage, but they are not believed to be life-threatening.
A child on board the boat was uninjured.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner while Manning/Great Lakes Local Area Command detectives have begun an investigation.
In due course the the Marine Area Command will take over the investigation.
