Paul Mercurio has been named the celebrity judge for the Hastings Stars Dance for Cancer gala night on November 25.
Mecurio’s name is forever synonymous with ballroom dancing after his starring role in the smash hit Australian movie “Strictly Ballroom”.
His journey with dance has been long after being inspired by Elvis Presley as a nine year old boy, his mother enrolled him into a local ballet school.
Mercurio then went on to win a scholarship with the Sydney Dance Company before being cast as ‘Scott Hastings’ in the Baz Luhrmann directed epic “Strictly Ballroom” becoming a virtual overnight sensation.
“Having such a high profile judge certainly adds to the prestige of the event,” Sarah Rogers, spokesperson for NSW Cancer Council Lower Mid North Coast, said.
“We are really looking forward to Paul bringing his professionalism and knowledge on the night,.”

Inspirational speaker and professional motivator, Michael Crossland, also returns as MC to Port Macquarie’s night of nights. Nine local ‘stars’ will take to the dancefloor for the NSW Cancer Council major fundraiser.
“We are really excited to have Michael return for the fourth year in a row,” said Dance for Cancer co-odinator Louise Beaumont.
“Not only is Michael a highly sought after MC but he also brings so much insight into the cancer journey on the night through his own experience in battling cancer not once but four times.
“Michael’s audience numbers have exceeded 250,000 this year alone so we are extremely lucky to have his very much ‘in demand’ presence once again. He always manages to make us all laugh and cry with his inspiring story of resilience and overcoming adversity.”
