Four Fishing Clubs – Laurieton Hotel, Laurieton United Services Club (LUSC), North Haven Anglers and Lake Cathie Bowling Club – competed for the honour of winning this year’s Broken Propeller Shield, fishing over three days October 21-23. This year’s event was hosted by Laurieton Hotel Amateur Fishing Club.
The winner was Lake Cathie Bowling Club Fishing Club who retained the trophy and title, dominating both the Deep Sea and Estuary categories with LUSC coming in second, Laurieton Hotel third and North Haven Anglers fourth.
“To everyone who fished, well done, brilliant effort,” said Deanna Minns from the Laurieton Hotel Fishing Club.
“We’re sure everyone enjoyed the day, barbecue, raffles and weigh-in and to those lucky enough to win prizes congratulations.
“Overall 179 fish were caught over Deep Sea, Beach & Rock and Estuary Categories. Fish consisted of Bream, Whiting, Flathead, Blackfish, Mullet, Jewfish (Mulloway), Tailor, Salmon and Drummer.
“A huge thank you to our committee who tirelessly planned and organised this event and Bert Hayes from the LUSC fishing club. Also to everyone who helped on the day, so proud of you all for coming together and making the day such a success.
“Jeanine Dempsey was the highest bidder in our auction for signed boxing gloves and photographs from 2016 RIO Games donated by Shelley Watts. Proceeds from auction are to be presented to Shelley Watts at a later date. Glass topped presentation box made and donated by Kendall Men’s Shed and Camden Haven Glass and Screen Solutions.
