Christmas is a season of hope, and The Salvation Army in Hannam Vale is encouraging people to give hope where it’s needed most this festive season.
“Last year, through the generous support of our local community, we were able to assist a number of families and individuals in need,” said envoy Leica Lauder.
“The joy, hope and relief in the faces of those assisted is a real reminder of what Christmas is all about.
“With your support we will be able to help even more people this year.”
Not only is The Salvation Army in Hannam Vale running its annual Christmas Cheer operation to provide toys and food for those in need, it is also holding a Christmas Day community luncheon and preparing for special Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services.
“Christmas is the busiest time of the year for The Salvation Army,” said Leica.
“People can join us to give hope where it’s needed most by donating quality, new toys to the Ulysses Motorcycle Club Toy Run which ends at Harrington. They can donate on the day or drop donations into our Family Store.
“Please bear in mind that we always need gifts for teenagers and young adults. Gift cards are great because teens love going shopping but those that we help often don’t get the chance due to their parents’ limited income.”
People needing assistance this Christmas can contact Salvos Connect at Harrington and Hannam Vale.
Anyone in need or who doesn’t have friends, family or extended family to celebrate Christmas with is also invited to a free Christmas Day Luncheon at Moorland Hall. Phone or text The Salvation Army’s envoy Melissa Gillies on: 0411 390 705 to book your place.
“Christmas is a season of love and hope,” said Melissa.
“We believe no one should have to spend Christmas alone.”
On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, The Salvation Army is inviting the public to gather together to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
“We believe Jesus is the hope of the world and His love compels us to do what we do. Our Christmas Church services are family friendly and a great way to celebrate what Christmas is all about – the birth of Jesus. There’ll be a real festive atmosphere and everyone is welcome,” said Melissa.
The Salvation Army’s Christmas services will be held at the following locations:
Moorland: Christmas Eve, December 24, 7-8pm at Moorland Union Church
