A woman who has supported pregnant women across the Hastings and in Kempsey has won a prestigious award.
Jill Bishton founded Port Macquarie Pregnancy Help in 1988 with husband Barrie. It later became Pregnancy Help Midcoast.
Now the West Kempsey pregnancy help group where she works has been recognised for their hard work over the past two decades.
Pregnancy Help Midcoast was awarded the best pregnancy support in regional, rural and remote NSW at the inaugural NSW Pregnancy Support Awards, announced at a lavish dinner at Parliament House in Sydney on November 8.
“I’m actually very proud of it because we put a lot of work into it,” Jill said of the award.
Jill was proud that, with very little funding, the group managed to fulfill an important role on the Mid North Coast.
“We saw a need and we went for it,” she said.
Jill also praised the combined effort of the group members from around the Mid North Coast, with the organisation providing 24-hour, seven days a week support on the coast between Coffs Harbour and Taree.
