Mid North Coast Local Area Command backs No Innocent Bystanders campaign

The powerful NSW Police Force campaign comprises a community service announcement to be shared across television networks, and an extended video that will appear on social media platforms.

Members of the NSW Police Domestic Violence Team worked closely with the production company to create the videos, which reflect their ongoing experience of investigating and prosecuting domestic and family violence incidents.

The video aims to highlight the serious realities of domestic violence while demonstrating how members of the community can take action to report incidents anonymously via Crime Stoppers.

Mid North Coast Local Area Commander, Superintendent Paul Fehon, said the campaign demonstrates the continued commitment of NSW Police to addressing the scourge of domestic and family violence.

“Police respond to thousands of domestic violence-related incidents every year, and this campaign shows the role the community can play in helping them address this complex issue,” Supt Fehon said. 

“There have also tragically been 32 homicides this year where domestic violence was an associated factor.

“Sadly, we know there had been a history of violence in some of these cases but neighbours, family members or friends may have hesitated in coming forward for a variety of reasons.”

“But you have the power to change this, and that’s exactly why we’re asking you; if you witness domestic violence, speak up.

“It may be that someone close to you has changed their behaviour or has unexplained injuries. If you have concerns for their welfare, please pick up the phone and report those concerns to Crime Stoppers,” Supt Fehon said.

“It only takes one anonymous phone call to save someone’s life. Don’t hesitate – make that call today.”
