THE coveted Butch Monkley Memorial Maiden will be run on New Year’s Eve at the Hastings River Greyhound Racing Club’s annual December 31 meeting in Wauchope.
Apart from the Butch Monkley memorial, there will be two heats for the Wauchope Cup, with the final to be run on January 7.
Blackmans Point trainer Steve Baker has one dog in the main race, Space Delaney, and hopes to walk away with the Butch Monkley trophy.
“This year’s new years meeting isn’t as big as most years because of the impacts on greyhound racing in NSW, but it should still be a great night,” he said.
“It’s always very popular with the locals. I’m very happy to have a dog in.
“It’s been years since a local has won it. He’s a local dog and he knows every blade of grass, so hopefully I’m in with a chance.”
Racing starts at 7pm. The Butch Monkley Maiden, which is race number four, will jump at 8pm.
