WAUCHOPE Showground will play host to the Monster Slam show on December 30 where American Kreg Christensen will lead a field of six massive monster trucks.
Christensen, from Salt Lake City Utah, is a monster truck expert and will join five Aussies when they fire up their 1500 horsepower engines for the Monster Slam show.
A nationally accredited tour, the show returns after several years away from the area.
As well as the monster trucks, which feature the very popular Scooby Doo and Raptor trucks, their will be three motocross stunt riders performing breath taking tricks, a mind blowing jet car and a big fireworks show.
Christensen has been driving, and building, monster trucks for more than 25 years.
He is nothing short of an expert both in and outside of the truck, able to precisely manoeuvre the massive vehicles while making it look easy.
“I love Australia. I started coming out here seven years ago to help with the trucks and maintain them. The people are great, the country is like a second home to me,” he said.
“I drive monster trucks, but I’m the guy who builds them as well. I’ve built all the trucks that will be in Wauchope for the show.”
He has performed through America, Canada, Asia, Europe, New Zealand and Australia.
A fabricator by trade, his love of motor sport and monster trucks started a long time ago.
“It was something that was big and bold and exciting,” he said.
“For me it’s the only motorsport where you’re up close and personal with fans. They can come and look at the trucks, sign autographs, there is a pit party and other things for the kids.
“It’s the best in family entertainment. It appeals to big kids, small kids, all of the family.
“You never know what’s going to happen, there might be flips and spills, you never know.”
Leading the Aussies assault on the Americans is Hayden McCleary from the Sunshine Coast.
At only 21 years of age, Hayden is arguably Australia's leading monster truck driver with over six years behind the wheel.
All six monster trucks will compete in Skywheelie competitions, racing and the insane freestyle contest.
Gates will open at 4pm with a free pit party between 4.30 and 5.30. The show will start with at 6pm.
Tickets are available on line at www.monsterevents.com.au or at TJM Port Macquarie.
