State matters, with Leslie Williams MP

I encourage you to consider attending one of the many community events being held in our local area. My husband Don and I will be attending the breakfast celebrations at North Brother Mountain in Laurieton and then later the Australia Day function on the Town Green in Port Macquarie in the afternoon.

More than 43,500 people in New South Wales have benefited significantly from Ability Links, a ground-breaking State Government program connecting people with disability to their local communities. 

The NSW Government recently launched two independent evaluation reports that show the program is delivering significant benefits to the community. The launch of the reports validates the success of Ability Links and its role in supporting people with disability, their families and carers.

NSW is the only state to offer Ability Links. The two reports demonstrate how the government is driving social change within communities to become more inclusive and welcoming.  

According to the reports by Urbis, this innovative approach to supporting people with a disability returns three dollars in economic and social benefits for every dollar invested, making a significant change in the lives of people with disability.

The program is delivered by dedicated staff known as ‘Linkers’ who work with people with disability, their families, and carers to build on their strengths and skills, and develop networks in their own communities outside of the traditional disability services sector.
