With fewer and fewer picture framing stores left on the mid north coast, shoppers often have little choice but to travel to find the perfect place to get their artwork and heirlooms framed.
But as they travel and traverse the coast one particular store draws them in.
Laurieton’s Pearl Bay Custom Framing.
It’s a gem of a business but hard to find being tucked away in a mall.
Owner Fiona Boscheinen has passionately served a loyal and local customer base for more than 15 years and has noticed a growing trend of new customers finding her store from further afield.
“I’ve had some great feedback,” Fiona tells us.
“New customers are coming in and saying ‘we didn’t even know you existed.’”
But once discovered, Pearl Bay Custom Framing is hard to forget.
“They are choosing to come here instead of towns which may be closer for them,” said Fiona.
With ample parking at the rear, down the side...everywhere really, Laurieton is certainly an easy town to shop in.
“It’s a nice day trip to come to laid back Laurieton,” said Fiona.
But is it just the town that is pulling in the punters?
Fiona is clearly passionate about her work which mostly involves framing artwork, photographs, certificates, awards and other important personal items.
You name it, Fiona can frame it.
Customers bring their etchings, artworks, posters even mirrors, fine art and tapestries to Fiona so she can work her magic.
All the work is done in-house using traditional methods and quality materials.
When it comes to custom framing, Pearl Bay pride themselves on the quality of their frames, glass and matt boards.

As trends come and go, Fiona is keen to keep up with the times.
“Neutral, organic looking frames are trending right now,” she advises.
“Customers are wanting natural timbers in lighter shades – we can definitely help with that.”
So they can keep up with the trends but can they keep up with their new popularity?
“Of course!” assures Fiona.
“After more than 15 years we’ve pretty much perfected it and we love to help customers find the perfect frame.”
Pearl Bay is also the preferred supplier for local sporting clubs and community groups providing them with trophies, name badges and expert advice on frames and display options.
Find them at shop 14, Bold Street Laurieton in the mall next to Autopro.
Pearl Bay Custom Framing might not be easy to find, but mid north coast residents seem to agree, they’re definitely worth a trip to laid back Laurieton.
