Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses, giving them hope for the future, strength to face the challenges of their illness, and joy from their incredible wish experience.
Since 1985, Make-A-Wish has granted more than 8500 wishes to seriously ill children and teenagers all over Australia, and receives new applications every day.
Make-A-Wish Port Macquarie president Peta Watters said the branch, which started just over 12 months ago, were in full swing of granting wishes to local children and organising a fundraising ball.
“However we need more volunteers to assist with the event and wish making,” she said.
“I love volunteering for Make-A-Wish. Knowing that by donating just a little of my time I’m helping bring excitement and joy to a very sick child is so rewarding.
“We’ve got to help a teenager have a room makeover, helping a little boy’s wish to meet Batman, and had lots of fun fundraising
“We welcome everyone to apply to be a volunteer as we have people from all ages and backgrounds. Not only is volunteering a great way to connect with the community, it’s a lot of fun as well.”
Make-A- Wish volunteers support the charity’s work in various ways, including meeting with kids to capture their wish, hosting fundraising events and activities in the community, and also working closely with head office staff to make wishes of local kids come true.
The volunteer program is designed to fit around different lifestyles, with time given varying anywhere between one to two hours a month, to a couple of hours a week.
