“With the influx of social motorcycle riders heading to the Hastings region for the Ulysses Club annual general meeting, the Slice of Haven theme for this year’s event will rock your tastebuds,” said Kerry McFadyen spokesperson for the festival organising committee.
“Stallholders will be encouraged to create menus with a rebellious twist, showcasing local produce in new and exciting gourmet ways and dress up their sites, wear your biker leathers to embrace and have fun the theme.
“Think Billy Idol and the song Rebel Yell and have visitors shouting more, more, more.”
Slice of Haven’s inaugural event was in 2008.
It was the first food and wine festival of its kind in the Camden Haven, so taking on a rebellious twist in 2017 is a natural progression.
“We’ve always looked to shake things up and be different each year, with new themes, demonstrations, entertainment and flavours.
“What does remain the same is our core value of embracing local business, innovation and local produce.
“Each stallholder applies to be part of the festival and must show in their application how they are embracing the theme and what local produce they are using in their menus. Keeping the festival fresh and edgy each year has worked because we have stallholders eager to participate each year and around 15,000 visitors and locals attending year after year.”
Slice of Haven will be held May 21 on the Camden Haven River foreshore, at the end of Seymour Street Laurieton from 10am-4pm.
This year the event will be held in conjunction with the monthly Laurieton Riverwalk Markets, so the river foreshore from Bruce Porter Reserve to the Laurieton United Services Club jetty will be one long stretch of activity.
Come along and enjoy all the sights, sounds and flavours of the Camden Haven’s finest food, wine, beer and music festival.
Bring a picnic blanket, your friends and family to Laurieton and enjoy a feast of gourmet local foods, drinks and entertainment.
