It was standing-room only as people bid for prizes ranging from holidays, televisions, rugby league memorabilia to gift vouchers large and small. Family and friends rallied to raise incredible prizes for the auctions and raffles.
All proceeds will support local woman, Jess, and her family as she undergoes treatment to cure a rare and aggressive cancer – inflammatory breast cancer.
As a young woman, with no family history of breast cancer, much of the treatment and surgery Jess will need aren’t covered by Medicare or health insurance.
Saturday’s fundraising effort will go a long way to further Jess’ journey to wellness. She also plans to use some of the funds raised to support other women facing a similar situation and raise awareness for women’s health.
“The event was about raising awareness in our community about this form of breast cancer and educating women about their health,” Jess said.
“You know your body better than anyone and if you’re concerned about it…do something. I feel that it’s important to make people aware of the various signs and symptoms of breast cancer.”
Jess said she was in awe of the generosity and support from the community.
