The Blues tried their hardest but were unable to close the gap and the final score saw the Tigers winning the 2016 Grand Final 29-26.
With a mix of some new faces and some old faces back at the club, The Blues are poised to come back this year as a strong side. There is a determination to not only reach this year’s finals but to win there too.
“There has been great enthusiasm and already a great sense of mateship very early on within the Kendall Blues team for 2017,” said new coach, Beau Kettle.
“I’m very impressed with the numbers turning up for training and are more than keen to pull on their boots for the Kendall Blues. Since we started way back in January, I don't think we have under 15 the whole time and that's fitness sessions as well.”
Both Beau and assistant coach Dustin Prosser have a long history with rugby league as players since childhood and more recently in Group 3 playing first grade for the Wauchope Blues.
“Coming from playing first grade for the last 8 years, Dustin even longer, we both agree some of our players wouldn't look out of place in a first grade side and being coached by some quality players especially the likes of Robbie Trembath. Dustin and I are just imposing the same coaching structure which he taught us. Everybody in the team is picking up the structure and we were looking real sharp on Thursday night’s training.”
“We are very impressed with the way the team is going and having a look at the sides at the Bain Cup we will be very competitive. It's shaping up to be a cracking game.”
“The attitude of the players across the board has been impressive,” Dustin said.
“The players, committee and club have been more than welcoming to Beau and myself and we feel more than welcome, already feels like we are part of the team and club.”
Kendall Services and Citizens Club is the major sponsor for 2017 and the minor sponsor is the Royal Hotel Kew.
“All Kendall Blues supporters are encouraged to come along and welcome the Stingrays to Hastings League and cheer on the mighty Kendall Blues,” president Wayne Wilkes said.
