Malcolm Turnbull is not honoring an election commitment and the $122 million plus survey on our thoughts on same sex marriage is not a postal ballot as you claim in your letter to the editor. Politicians are not bound by the results of this voluntary survey.
Governments are always dealing with several issues at once. Several people share your concerns re electricity policy, terrorism and foreign ownership of our assets. This does not preclude us as a nation from addressing marriage equality.
Suggesting that the Safe Schools program exposes children to pornography and is somehow linked to marriage equality is ludicrous. Sex education has been taught in schools for generations.
I will be voting "YES" as I am a passionate believer in equality and not discriminating against people based on their sexual orientation. You are entitled to vote "NO" but please resist the tactics of the conservative and Christian lobbies to claim that this is an attack on your freedoms and our way of life and admit that you oppose same sex marriage for religious reasons.
Once same sex marriage becomes law in Australia Christians and conservatives will not be condemned or discriminated against. Ironic but the current law actively discriminates against same sex couples, the precise thing that you fear for yourself and fellow Christians. You are entitled to your opinion just like people with opinions different to yours are entitled to present their opposing views without being accused of attacking or victimising Christians and conservatives.
