THE new kids on the Hastings League block, Laurieton Hotel Stingrays, have been bustled out of the competition in spectacular fashion by the Lower Macleay Magpies.
Despite a strong effort in their first finals appearance, the Stingrays were no match for their much more experienced opponents, crashing to a 50-4 defeat on Saturday, September 2.
Experience Hastings League player and Magpie captain Bo Wilson was happy to see his team put together a near flawless performance.
“The Stingrays are a really good side with a lot of talent in their side. I don’t think the score reflects on our opponents or the game,” he said.
“In the context of how our season’s gone it was important to put together a complete performance like that. Right now, coming into the back of the season and to hit form it has given everyone some confidence.”
Wilson was arguably the best on field but 16 year old fullback, Jack Walsh-McKeirnan, was very impressive.

“He’s one of those players who has a massive amount of talent,” he said.
“When a young guy can stand up against grown men and not look out of place it’s really good, and it gives us older guys some confidence.”
