In doing so, they have created the five-kilometre fun run for those who do not want to race in an event, but wanted to be a part of the festival.
Organiser Mick Maher said it is directed more for the mums and dads with the kids with the distance manageable for all the family.
“Although it’s called a 'run', it has a bigger focus on the 'fun' component,” he said.
“The time allocated to complete the course has been set at two hours so this course can be walked in the allocated time and it really does open doors for everyone to be able to participate.
“We welcome some new record-setting, but the main focus on this event is to get people involved and to offer families and friends an opportunity to participate in an event together.”
Maher said they wanted the Beach to Brother running festival to engage as many of the local community as possible.
“We want to encourage outdoor activity as an activity that family and friends can participate in rather than watching movies or playing on games consoles,” he said.
“We want people in this region to become aware of what natural beauty we have on our doorsteps and make use of them.
“The finish line for all of the distances in the Beach to Brother is definitely a challenge; climbing the stairs leading up through North Brother Mountain is a experience that everyone should encounter at some point in time.
“The track is as physically demanding as you want it to be.”
Maher said “virtually everyone will stop for a rest at some point along the way and that is fine because that is when people see things they normally would not.”
People can participate in the 5k Fun Run from the age of eight.
Those that fall in the 8-11 age bracket need to have an adult running with them on the course for safety reasons.
“We are really hoping that the community will engage with this fantastic opportunity,” Maher said.
“The price has been set to literally cover the costs of administration, medals, and National Park usage fees to go up the trail.”
The 5k Fun Run starts at midday from Laurie Street Reserve, Laurieton.
The 10k Dash starts at 11am from in front of the Camden Haven Surf Club.
A courtesy bus will transport participants and spectators between the base and top of Captain Cook Bicentennial Drive, on North Brother Mountain, on the day of the event.
