Port Macquarie-Hastings Council have announced that after advice was received on Thursday night, the ocean will once again be safe for all to enjoy.
After lengthy meetings with representatives from Surf Lifesaving NSW, Port Macquaire Surf Lifesaving Club, NSW Police and NSW Department of Primary Industries it was agreed that after advice from a NSW DPI shark expert that shark activities were at levels considered “normal” there was no reason for people not to enjoy the beach once again.
Council general manager Craig Swift-McNair said that everything was being done to ensure beach goers safety.
“All possible measures are being taken to ensure public safety when the beaches re-open on Saturday at the start of the surf patrol season,” Mr Swift McNair said.
“We will have the NSW Surf Lifesaving Little Ripper drone operating, helicopter surveillance and of course our local surf lifesavers and life guards on patrol as well.”
This announcement comes after the NSW State Government announced $50,000 in emergency funding from the Public Reserve Management Fund on Thursday afternoon to assist with the removal of the whale carcass buried at Nobby’s Beach and continued community angst.
