The 14th Annual Mid North Coast Girls Surf Classic proudly hosted by the Mid North Coast Girls Surfriders Club Inc. will be held on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 October at the picturesque Rainbow Beach, Bonny Hills.
The Mid North Coast Girls Surfriders Club is a community-based club providing a service for surfer girls on the Mid North Coast. Promoting girls surfing, fun, fitness, friendship and with the focus on participation rather than cutthroat competition.
Only due to support from local businesses and community partnerships can this event continue to encourage all girls and women regardless of their age or ability to compete in a non-threatening environment.
All competitors can surf two rounds in their respective division on Saturday, encouraging participation throughout the day. Results from both heats are tallied together and the top six surfers in each division go through to the finals.
Currently there are 70 competitors entered in 10 divisions which include shortboards, longboards and mini mals. In shortboards 12 years and under are catered for as well as Under 14, Under 16, Under 21 and Open divisions. The longboards include Over 45, Over 55 and Open divisions and Mini Mal. The most popular division is the 12 years and under Beginner Girl Caddy where they can ride any size board and have a caddy to assist them in the water.
Bonny Hill’s surfer Leanne Hopwood will be hoping to retain her 2016 title in the Over 55’s Longboard division, however, the Lennox Head All Girls Surfriders have a strong team travelling down to compete in this division.
Last year in the open shortboard and under 16 shortboard the Sydney Northern Beaches surfers excelled but this year Julia Williams who surfed at regional level this year ready to grab the title.
