LETTER: Forest practices raise concerns for koalas

It is great to see so much effort being put into trying to save the iconic koala within the local community.

Hundreds of tallowwood trees are being grown and cared for by local school children.

But it seems to pale to insignificance when compared to the destruction brought to our local Crown lands by NSW Forest Corporation.

New harvest regimes allow for the intensive clearfell of local forests.

Thousands of hectares are being targeted with no concern for the animals that may live there. All bio-diversity is bulldozed and only a single species seed tree sparsely spaced are left, producing only a monoculture in the future.

Without a healthy and unmolested forest, in the future the koala will just become a colourful myth.
