To help celebrate National Bird Week photographer Judy Butler has shared photos of pelicans vying for dinner down by Wallis Lake, Forster.
She photographed two ‘locking horns’ and another with a fish stuck sideways.
“He had quite a battle working out how to get it down without dropping it. I love pelicans because they are so typical of the beautiful area we live in, they just make me feel so calm and content.”
The Australian pelican has the longest bill of any bird and is the most southerly breeding of all pelican species.
There are eight living pelican species across the world with only the one species found in Australia.
