A grant from Indigenous Affairs is funding the project.
Each class was given a totem to design and decorate and local Birrbay artist Tony Clark was given the task to make the totems from locally sourced timber.
The school’s Indigenous Education Officer, Leanne Parsons said the artist then drew inspiration from the class totems, creating the completed wooden works of art.
“Brass plaques have been added to the totems giving each totem their Indigenous language name as well as a brief description,” Ms Parsons said.
“Tony is currently in the process of preparing for the totems to be erected at the chosen site.”
Once the totems are in place, the school will hold an an opening ceremony and morning tea.
