NSW Rural Fire Service’s district officer – learning and development Stuart Robb says that, despite the cooler weather conditions, landholders still need to be vigilant.
“We would like to remind landholders to continually check the weather forecast prior to undertaking any fire reduction activity,” he said.
“Even if the weather looks fine at the time of undertaking your hazard reduction, we would urge people to consider the forecast for the entire burn.”
There are currently three fires burning in the local government area, Mr Robb said.
National Parks and Wildlife Service has an 80 hectare fire at Forest Hut Road, Pembrooke under control. This fire is in the Rawdon Creek Nature Reserve area with NPWS crews continuing to monitor it throughout the day.
Rural Fire Service crews are also monitoring two fires in Herons Creek. Both fires are in the vicinity of Queens Lake.
The Bobs Creek fire on Roseneath Road is currently ‘at patrol’ status with a crew likely to check on this fire throughout the day.
The second fire, at Cluelys, is contained but crews are monitoring this throughout the day.
Mr Robb said it was unlikely Port Macquarie would experience a smoke haze similar to Tuesday ‘because the southerly would not be as strong today’.
“There could, potentially, be some internal burning at Cluelys,” he added.
