Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie joined members of the Comboyne community and Telstra representatives as the 200th new Telstra base station kicked into action.
The new base station is delivering Telstra’s 3G and state of the art 4GX mobile data services to the region for the first time.
This allows the community to keep in contact with family and friends and run their businesses more effectively, whether by speaking on the phone or using a range of online services over our fast mobile network
The Comboyne project has been funded under round three of the programme.
Mount Seaview is being funded under Round Three. Carriers are being invited to tender for that service.
“Telstra has now delivered 200 base stations since the Mobile Black Spot Program started in December 2015, that’s around eight base stations a month,” said Area General Manager Tricia Wilson.
“The community of Comboyne will further benefit when another base station is switched on later this year.
“These base stations are delivering Telstra’s 3G and state of the art 4GX mobile data services to the region for the first time, allowing the community to keep in contact with family and friends and run their businesses more effectively, whether by speaking on the phone or using a range of online services over our fast mobile network,” she added.
Comboyne dairy farmer Jenny Hurrell said everyone has mobile phones now, so they need to be able to talk to staff immediately. Their farm has 700 milking cows and 750 calves.
“It’s great to have service, and be able to use the internet on the mobile phone,” she said.
Stuart Robb from the Rural Fire Service said it helped them alert the community during emergencies.
