The Mid North Coast Branch of Heart Support Australia is a group made up of members of all ages who meet once a week to do some light exercise, socialise and enjoy a cuppa.
Members include those who have experienced heart issues, carers and also those who do not have heart issues but want to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Every Monday at 9am the members meet near the torpedo monument behind Laurieton United Services Club (LUSC) to walk along the breakwall to Stingray Bridge and then return past LUSC to Dunbogan Bridge. The group ends the walk at LUSC for members to have a cuppa and a chat.
Everyone is welcome to join the group, regardless of mobility issues. The distance, speed and time to walk depends on the individual’s health condition. Those in wheelchairs, with walkers and tricycles are also welcome.
Heart Support Australia has been active in the Camden Haven area for about 10 years.
Members attend the Laurieton Riverwalk Markets to take blood pressure, sell books and heart-friendly cakes.
Proceeds raised from the event go towards the running of the branch and to donate for equipment at the Port Macquarie Base Hospital.
The group has donated funds to put towards a walkway which is being constructed at Coronary Care area of the hospital.
