There will be a team paddle at 5pm followed by a barbecue, cutting of the birthday cake and a special presentation to Laurieton United Services Club.
Ten years ago a group of interested women formed a dragon boat club at Laurieton and held their inaugural meeting. The club soon built up a large following by locals to form Camden Haven Dragon Boat Club.
The club remains strong and committed to providing a safe and enjoyable water sport for the community. At present there are 60 male and female members.
The club has three dragon boats which are stored in cages next to Laurieton United Services Club, the club’s major sponsor.
Each week, weather permitting, there are six training runs and once a month a ‘Pink’ paddle for survivors and supporters of cancer.
Since the club’s inception, a group of breast cancer survivors and their supporters has been an integral part of Camden Haven Dragon Boat Club. The group was formerly known as Dragons Abreast Camden Haven and is now named CanSurvive.
