The youth-focussed event will support White Ribbon Australia’s work to end men’s violence against women. Young leaders from local schools, universities, TAFE and community groups have been invited to the event which will be held at the Shared Health Research and Education Campus in Highfields Circuit.

White Ribbon Day is held annually on 25 November. More than 70 countries internationally standing together on White Ribbon Day.

MNCLHD Chief Executive and White Ribbon Ambassador Stewart Dowrick said targeting young people in our community to attend White Ribbon Day activities was important as it would ensure future generations continue to be committed to the reduction of violence against women.

“We want young people to know that violence against women is unacceptable, it is never the victim’s fault, help is always available and if you see something you should definitely say something,” Mr Dowrick said

“Young people need to know that their voice is important, that they can make a difference.”

Mr Dowrick is encouraging all young people, and particularly young men, to join him in taking the White Ribbon Day Oath which is a commitment to promoting positive attitudes and behaviours towards women, and when needed to intervene safely to prevent violence against women.

The White Ribbon Day breakfast event will feature special guest speaker Jed Peisley, Acting Deputy Principal Kempsey High, who will host an interactive interview panel of selected Kempsey High School students talking about their perspectives of the prevention of domestic violence.
