The Lake Cathie resident lost her mum to cancer when she was aged in her 40s. Terrie was just 25-years-old at the time.
Recently a Facebook memory reminded Terrie she had shaved her head nine years ago to support the cause. One of her son’s friends motivated her to do it again in 2017.
“He was one of the first to donate so that was really lovely,” she said.
While survival rates have improved for those diagnosed with cancer, Terrie said there is still no cure.
Many of Terrie’s friends have been diagnosed with a variety of cancers and she wants to help find a cure by fundraising.
“Everyone knows someone affected by cancer,” Terrie said.
“The more people that know about Australian Cancer Research Foundation, the greater the impact.”
Terrie said her three sons and husband have been very supportive of her campaign. She thanked the wider community for generous donations to contribute to research.
“If everyone could give the $5 they normally spend on a coffee each day we would raise so much money,” she said.
Terrie will shave her head at Shaza's Hair Nails & Beauty at 4pm on Friday, November 24. The event is open to the community.
