They are running a competition to find Port Macquarie’s most perfect pet and all you need to do is put together a one minute video of your pet, and you have the chance to win $200 according to Video Network’s Maryanne Brilley, the organiser of the pageant.
“We wanted to do something fun for people with pets, but also raise awareness to the plight of rescue dogs around the Mid North Coast, and raise some money for the Mid North Coast Dog Rescue,” Ms Brilley said.
“Mid North Coast Dog Rescue do a really fantastic job re-homing and looking after dogs in the area, and unfortunately there are not unlimited resources to help, especially at this time of year, so we wanted to do something to help,” she said.
All the proceeds raised from the pageant will go back to Mid North Coast Dog Rescue and Ms Brilley said there will lots of fun for humans and animals alike.
“We will have balloons, free paddlepops, taro card readings, live music, food and reiki pet healing along with the 11 finalists and winner in the pet contest.
“To enter the competition it is a $5 registration fee which goes straight to the Mid North Coast Dog Rescue, and the day is shaping up to be a lot of fun for both pets and owners,” she said.
Nigel Bird from Mid North Coast Dog Rescue, said now is coming into the worst time of the year for dogs being discarded and warns people to really think about whether or not to get a pet.
“People in Port Macquarie love their pets, there is no doubt about it, but having a pet is not a cheap thing, so we want people to be cautious when they think about getting a pet these holidays.
“Especially coming into the holidays people and families buy pets only for them to be discarded after New Years, and that is something we really don’t have to have happen,” Mr Bird said.
To enter the competition, send your one minute videos to DVDZ@live.com.au before November 30.
Port’s Perfect Pet pageant will be on December 2 at Video Network in the Lighthouse Plaza from 10am.
