2018 is set to be a fantastic year as the Hastings Theatre Company are set to put on Wicked the musical in July.
President of the company, and director of Wicked, Nick Cameron said that despite the nerves, he is excited his first directorial performance will be with such an iconic musical.
“Go big or go home I say.
“As we are a new theatre company we decided to go big for our first musical and I don’t think you can get any more iconic that Wicked.
“As a new director I think if you have a passion and drive anything and everything is possible,” Mr Cameron said.
Mr Cameron said when casting the musical the object the company wanted to set was to get actors who are “out of the box” or people who wouldn’t usually be cast in main roles.
“We have a cast of 42, ranging in ages from 11 to mid 70s which is really unique and my directorial style is probably unconventional, but it means that people should have no preconceived ideas about what to expect,” he said.
The shows, two matinees and four evening performances, will be at the Glasshouse at the beginning of July, and will be something Port has never seen before, with Mr Cameron saying he will be “quirking things up”.
“The show, a personal favourite of mine, is the back story to the Wizard of Oz, and I think it will make people question everything they know about the much loved classic.
“The show coming together will be a personal success for me because we have cast people from all walks of life to show that if someone has the passion anything is possible.
“I am really excited to start rehearsals at the end of January and I think it is going to be really interesting to see the whole cast interact and come together to make something really special.
“At this point in time I am feeling overwhelmed but super excited to get started on things after Christmas,” he said.
