Sensei Arakaki from Okinowa (Japan) visited karate members of the Laurieton Matsubayashi Ryu Karate dojo to teach and offer advice on technique.
Sensei Arakaki is 74-years-old and holds a 10th Dan black belt. He is also the vice president of the World Matsubayashi Ryu Association.
Laurieton dojo teacher John Carlye said Sensei Arakaki is one of the highest ranked karate men in the world and is an international martial arts celebrity.
“It was a great honour for him to attend our training and offer advice on technique,” he said.
Matsubayashi Ryu is the traditional form of karate where concentration is placed on a student’s development for their martial arts skills while also teaching the importance of attributes including courtesy and respect.
Arakaki started training when he was 18-years-old. While he is now retired he devotes his life to instructing and teaching.
This was Arakaki’s third trip to Australia but his first time in Laurieton Dojo.
Karate enthusiasts from New Zealand, Canberra, Old Bar and Wingham attended the training on November 30 to learn from Sensei Arakaki.
