Another surfing year came to an end for the North Haven Boards Riders on Sunday, December 3 concluding with the annual inter- club team’s event.
Three teams of five surfed against each other in a hotly contested competition in less than ideal conditions.
Grant Williams from the group said it was a trying year for the surfers with only seven rounds contested, most of which were fought out in fairly average conditions.
Grant said a big pat on the back is well deserved for all the girls and boys in the microgroms division.
“They paddled out in some pretty tough conditions over the course of the year but kept turning up each month in full froth mode,” he said.
Grant thanked parents and support people who braved the water to make sure the micros were safe, got to the right surfing pointers and gave advice.
“Thank you also needs to be given to all the members who turn up each month and help to make the contests a safe and fun event,” he said.
Grant congratulated microgrom Lucy Henry, who was the lucky winner of a brand new B.M.D surf board.
The top four placed surfers for each division were as follows;
For the microgrom girls first place went to Indy Collier, second place Ayla Cross, third place Lucy Henry and equal fourth place Marle Bell with Zoe Hedge.
Archie Cross came first for the microgrom boys, second place went to Jessie Bell, Jed Boland was third and fourth place went to Conner Green.
For the cadets/juniors first place went to Jake Cross, second place Dylan Boland, third place Liam Mcarthy and fourth place Rhys Hedge.
First place for the open short board went to John Kolehmainen, second place Daniel Blanch, third place Grant Williams and fourth place Andrew Cross.
Pomegranate Kids Clothing, B.M.D surf boards and North Haven Take Away are the major sponsors for the group.
