We have joined with broadcaster Ray Hadley and the Sydney Swans to target roads users, particularly those under the age of 35, to remind them of the dangers of using a phone while driving.
The Sydney Swans have produced a video with the NSW government encouraging drivers to keep their phones – Out of Sight, Out of Mind.
Texting while driving increases the risk of a crash by 23 time. Unfortunately the data doesn’t show just how many people are losing their lives due to this distraction.
Every year 13,790 people under the age of 35 are charged with using their phone while driving. The temptation to send a quick text or check a message means people are driving blind. With people checking their phones more than 150 times a day, ask yourself, is your last text worth dying for?
Active Kids Rebate
From January 31, 2018, parents and carers of school children enrolled in an approved sport or fitness activity can receive a $100 voucher to cover registration and participation costs for that calendar year.
The program supports the Premier’s priority to reduce childhood obesity by increasing participation in sport and changing physical activity behaviours of young people.
I hope parents take advantage of the Active Kids Program and enrol their children in their preferred sport. Each child can receive one voucher per year for the next four years. The first step for parents is to visit sport.nsw.gov.au/activekids to read the guidelines and fact sheets.
