Organiser Bert Hayes said he encourages families and holiday makers to get involved.
Over 100 competitors are expected to take part and Bert is hoping for fine weather for the event.
“Anyone can get out there for a fish and there are categories where you don’t have to catch the largest of the species but just one to be in the chance to win,” he said.
Over $3500 is available to be won across a number of categories at the event.
Categories include Mystery Bream, Mystery Flathead, For the Most Species, Heaviest of 19 Species and Heaviest Other.
The weigh-in for judging the catch will be on Sunday, January 7 at 1pm at the back of the Laurieton United Services Club.
There will be a barbecue and the raffle will be drawn at the event with the top fishing winners revealed and prizes handed out.
To be eligible for the weigh-in fish must be caught between 6am Friday, January 5 and 12pm Sunday, January 7.
There is also a junior section in the Fishing Bonanza where children must be under 16-years-old as of January 7, 2018.
Bert said it is important that participants remember the skipper is responsible when boating.
“If the bar or the rocks are too dangerous stick to the estuary,” he said.
“No fish is worth a life.”
Tickets are $7 for adults or $3 for children and available from the LUSC Foyer, the Dunbogan Boatshed or North Haven Bait and Tackle.
Bert thanked all the local businesses for their support of the Fishing Bonanza.
