It is concerning that the RMS blanket solution to it being unable to solve the issue of vehicle incidents is to drop speed limits rather than fixing roads as they are paid to do. This is endemic through the organisation and we call on the Roads minister to put a broom through the department and get rid of the cancer plaguing this organisation.

Our taxes and exorbitant road fees are not being used competently and considering that it is nearly 2018 - motorists expect that road conditions and speed limits are not lowered to meet an expectation of lower accidents – in fact overseas experience indicates the lower highway speed limits increase accidents due to inattention and increased fatigue due to longer travelling times.
At no point should a road speed limit be permanently lower due to lack of maintenance and this likewise applies to sections of road that had overtaking opportunities removed after a road “upgrade”.
So at what point will the RMS re-introduce red flags in front of cars?
There should never be a permanent lowering of speed and it is time the RMS is directed to achieve outcomes that assist the motorist and their real employer – the taxpayer.
Perhaps it is now time if the speed limit is dropped , that through court action we all seek to recover the difference in travel times - if for example the Oxley Highway west of Wauchope, speed limit is arbitrarily dropped from 100 to 80 over 44kms. This is quantifiable over a period and therefore you are entitled to compensation.
It is bad enough being an economic slave and then having your travelling times to work arbitrarily increased due to bureaucratic incompetence.
Towards zero is not achievable when we have a system where people are being taught to drive to a rulebook and by equally mostly flawed parents who cannot drive either - rather than actual car control and a State Government that is addicted to “speeding” fines for economic survival.
In addition, what really should be targeted is speed differential – this is what does kill people and it is quite common to have people driving 30-35km/h under the posted limit on our highways. These people are the real danger and focus should be if you cannot do the speed limit or near it, travel out of peak times.
Perhaps the slogan should be “Towards Zero – Km/h”
