The city has once again outdone itself with another amazing fireworks display to ring in 2018 after a year that many were happy to leave behind.
And Melbourne made sure, after a difficult 2017, that Federation Square was a place of joy and celebration on New Year’s Eve.
A heavy police presence watched over a largely well-behaved crowd with the balmy weather ensuring a summer-party atmosphere.
In true New Year's Eve spirit, Canberra celebrated the start of 2018 into the early morning on Monday.
Civic was busy with people saying goodbye to 2017 with friends until dawn, when the clean-up got under way.
