The Camden Haven was hit by an intense storm on the first day of 2018 at about 2pm.
Laurieton resident Trevor Coles said his stepdaughters Pat and Pla were vising Laurieton and Australia for the first time.
The girls live in the hottest area in southern Thailand and while they get electrical storms there they have never experienced a storm like that on January 1.
They’ve never experienced a hail storm,” Trevor said.
“The storm which the Camden Haven suffered on New Year’s Day was both frightening and joyful as they went through the emotions of the frightening noise and then the fun of playing in the cold aftermath.”
Trevor has lived in the Camden Haven for 20 years and he said it is one of the most intense hail storms he has experienced.
While Trevor said the damage to his property wasn’t major though his skylights were smashed, two cars were damaged and fly-screens broken.
Other residents reported damage to their house roofs, windows, cars and caravans.
NSW State Emergency Service Port Macquarie-Hastings local controller Paul Burg said members attended over 70 jobs with majority associated with hail damage.
