Fire and Rescue NSW Laurieton station commander Les King says a paraglider was fortunate to escape without serious injury after he hit a tree at North Brother Mountain.

Mr King said the 37-year-old became trapped at a height of about 45 metres and emergency services were called to assist at about 5pm on Friday, January 5.
Fire and Rescue NSW Laurieton, NSW Ambulance Laurieton, police and NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service attended the incident at the top of the mountain’s north side.
The patient was accessed by rope and assessed for injury before he was lowered to the ground in a harness.
Once the man was back on land he was assessed by paramedics where it was determined he would not have to be transported to hospital.
“Considering he hit a tree he was very lucky to come away with just bumps and bruises,” Mr King said.
Fire and Rescue NSW Laurieton is a specialised vertical rescue unit. The crew is trained to attend incidents to safely rescue those who find themselves trapped at height or depth in hostile environments.
