Port Macquarie has placed 7th overall, according to online travel site Wotif, and travel specialist Kirsty La Bruniy said it was because of our gorgeous coastlines and proximity to so many fun activities for the whole family.
“This Australia Day, we want to bring to the forefront the versatile personalities of our top towns,” Ms La Bruniy said.
“Every town has a story to tell about what makes them famous and worthy of being awarded one of the nation’s best.
“We know that around two thirds of Australians view a local holiday as an opportunity to reinvest in the local economy and support regional communities, so we wanted to provide some AUS-spiration to travelers and encourage us all to get out there and see this great nation.”
Ms La Bruniy said that MacKay in Queensland topped the list, before Shepparton and Mildura in Victoria, Bunbury in Western Australia, Bundaberg in Queensland, Lakes Entrances in Victoria, Townsville in Queensland, Port Macquarie, Byron Bay and Batemans Bay in New South Wales and Echuca in Victoria.
“We ranked destinations of value for money, affordability, demand, interest and the number of accommodation properties available,” she said.
“With boundless plains to explore, there’s no better time than now to plan a local trip in 2018, with the added advantage of saving yourself a few extra dollars and travel time by travelling closer to home.”
