“I am from Sydney and I ride my bike quite a bit, including to work every day, but it wasn't until I was riding on holiday here in Port Macquarie that I had a car knock me off my bike,” Mr Koelmeyer said.
“It definitely was a bit of a shock really, but fortunately there was no other damage done to me or my bike.”
Mr Koelmeyer said the driver had no respect for the distance rules cars must pay attention to.
“It happened at a roundabout right in the centre of town and clearly the driver had no respect for the distance rule.
“I want to give them the benefit of the doubt that they did not see me, but when I ride I have lights on my bike and wear a fluro vest, so I find it really hard to think they could not see me.”
Mr Koelmeyer also said that he tried to get their attention after the incident and insists he is not an aggressive biker who is having a go at all car drivers.
“I knocked on the rear passenger door loudly as she drove past me at about a 10 cm distance to no avail.
“I am not saying all car drivers don’t follow the rules, but simply it is a case of both cars and bikes being safe on the road, because at the end of the day it is about everyone staying alert of what is going on.”
