Residents in the Camden Haven locations of West Haven, Lakewood, Laurieton, Kendall and Kew have continued to report to the Camden Haven Courier they have little or no Telstra mobile reception.
Dr Gillespie said he had made representations on behalf of a number of constituents regarding mobile phone coverage previously.
“When I became the Federal Member in 2013, I was astonished to hear that places like the Camden Haven would have to wait for at least ten more years to get the NBN,” he said.
“In the reforms we introduced, the rollout was brought forward and thankfully is now nearing completion in the Camden Haven.”
Dr Gillespie said a number of constituents have raised concerns about mobile coverage and data speeds.
“While there has been some work by the telcos, to me the current situation is still unsatisfactory and more work needs to be done,”
“In an electorate that is 16,099km2, I do a lot of work on the road and I know where most of the blackspots are between the Hunter River and the Hastings.
“Telstra, the NBN and the other telcos have become very familiar with our electorate following many many discussions and representations and these issues raised in the Camden Haven will continue to be put on their radar.”
Telstra’s area general manager Mike Marom said the network can get congested if everyone tries to make a call or use data at the same time.
“These peak times are generally around lunchtime and early evening,” he said.
“If that happens, customers should wait a few minutes and try again.”
