A yacht docked at the Port Macquarie Marina has been internally destroyed after a fire.

At 10.06am on January 30, local Fire and Rescue NSW crews got the call to attend the incident.

Leading station officer for Fire and Rescue NSW Port Macquarie Gaven Muller said it was a joint operation with Marine Rescue.

“We were on the scene less than seven minutes after the initial call,” Mr Muller said.

“Marine Rescue Port Macquarie were also in attendance.”

Mr Muller said from the preliminary investigations there was substantial damage to the interior of the cabin after crews contained the fire to the galley and accommodation quarters of the yacht.

The fire was attended to by Fire and Rescue crews from Port Macquarie and Wauchope along with a special hazard team due to high levels of carbon monoxide emitting from the boat.

Unit commander for Marine Rescue Port Macquarie, Greg Davies said Marine Rescue deployed a PM30 craft which has the capabilities to put out fires on the water when the emergency call was received.

The cause of the fire is unknown and investigations will continue.
