Over the past year Lorna said she has really come ‘out of her shell’.
“I definitely haven’t talked that much to people,” she said.
“However at guides I have definitely leveled up in my social skills.”
Girl Guides leader Sally Woodhouse said it’s something that she also experienced when she joined as a seven-year-old.
“I was really shy,” she said.
“After being involved in guides it has taken me everywhere including Thailand and New Zealand.
“I’ve also taken on state roles.”
Sally said she has enjoyed watching the girls blossom, develop and challenge themselves to do things they wouldn’t normally do.
Sally said a lot of girls come to Girl Guides with low self confidence but the group encourages them to build their esteem.
“Everyone is good at something different so we let them experience lots of different things,” she said.
Sally said it is important to have women leaders in Girls Guides and also the wider community.
“It shows the girls they can do anything they want to do,” she said.
Lorna said she has really enjoyed the activities on offer at the Camden Haven Girl Guides.
She said her favourite activity was the master chef.
The activity involved participants receiving random food items and kitchen utilities to put a meal together.
In 2018 Camden Haven Girl Guides district manager Kim Woodhouse said there is a international Jamboree camping event in Sydney.
“It’s a week-long amazing experience for them,” she said.
