Just ask Camden Haven High School student Connor Cook who will head to Brisbane on February 10 with the NSW All-Schools cricket side.

The teenager was selected in the squad in December, 2017 before he made the final cut for the team’s eight-day trip to Queensland.

Cook has been one of the standouts for a youthful Port Pirates team that has struggled in the inaugural season of the Mid North Coast Premier Cricket League.

He has also appeared for North Coast zone this season as he continues on the path to a baggy green.

NSW will play six games north of the border which will also include sightseeing and a trip to the national cricket centre.

“We play three games, then we have one rest day where we can do whatever we want,” Cook said.”

“Then we have another two games and then a rest day where we go to the national cricket centre in Brisbane.”

Every state will field a side for the national titles although NSW and Victoria will have two each.

The right-arm offspinner said he was looking forward to playing a role during the middle overs where he would apply pressure.

“Hopefully I should bowl around the second change between the 16th or 20th over,” he said.

“I just want to bowl well – nice and tight – and create pressure and hopefully that pressure means I can take some wickets.”

Cook’s NSW side played a trial on the first weekend of February as they wrapped up preparations for the tournament.

He was hopeful they would continue the state’s positive record.

“New South Wales has a pretty good record so far at these championships so hopefully we can keep the record going,” he said.

“I just want to play my part for the team during the week.”

An Adelaide Strikers fan, he was thrilled the South Australian’s won this year’s Big Bash League title.

“We were driving back listening to it on the radio and it was great,” he said.
