Emergency services including NSW Ambulance, police, Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Rural Fire Service were called to assist at about 12.35pm.
The woman’s cousin Susan Aiken was with her and said they had been for a walk and stopped for a break.
“We were sitting down and I asked her if she was feeling ok and she replied with ‘no’ she wasn’t,” she said.
Senior Constable from Laurieton Police Chris Rowley said the 89-year-old had a pre-existing medical condition.
Senior Constable Rowley said a number of people were required to carry the woman out from the beach on a board, as a stretcher would have been too difficult to use on the sand.
