Bravissimo is in its seventh year and is an opportunity for current year 12 students to see the standard they must reach by the end of the year to gain a band 6 or higher.

Director of the show Leanne Johnson said it was a special day.

“These music students are really the best of the best from Forster to Coffs Harbour and includes a handful of students from the Hastings region,” Ms Johnson said.

“Teachers nominated the students showcase pieces they performed during their HSC year to really inspire the students completing their HSC this year.”

The pieces performed came from a range of different genres including rock, heavy rock and jazz using a range of different instruments including voice, drums, clarinet, guitars, piano and saxophone.

Former Camden Haven High student, Aaron Johnson said despite music starting out as his fall back subject at the beginning of 2017, in the end it was one of his best.

“I started playing the drums three years ago and have been mostly self taught but am really passionate about music and wanted to do it in my HSC year,” Aaron said.

“For me it was about practicing all the time – something my parents didn’t always appreciate because drums are such a loud instrument – and being really motivate to keep going.

“At the start of last year I had put music as my fallback subject but in the end I received a higher mark for music than I did for physics so to the students out there who think they can’t do well at music think again.

“Today was great because I love playing live and to inspire the next generation of HSC students.”
