The couple, who didn’t want to be named, had only bought the caravan two months prior to the incident which happened at the North Haven roundabout as they turned onto Ocean Drive.
The owner said it was lucky the wheel didn’t come off on the highway.
Traffic was diverted by police around the incident.
The couple said they were disappointed as they were only five days into their trip and had intended to travel south.
The caravan has been towed to Port Macquarie to be repaired.
